Polar Reaserch

International Polar Year (IPY) is a $1.5 billion collaborative effort to study the north and south poles. Thousands of researchers will be carrying out more than 200 projects which mainly center on climate change. Some countries, including the UK and US, showed their IPY programs earlier this week, but the event Paris will be the official start of the two-year study. This is the fourth IPY since 1882 but the first one in which the impact of global warming will be visible on both poles. Scientists say rising temperatures are warming the Polar Regions faster than the rest of the planet. One of the main questions that scientists will hope raise awareness on is the potential rise in sea level caused by melting of ice sheets in Greenland and Antarctica. The ice sheets in the south contain 90% of the entire world’s fresh water and if it melted global sea levels would rise 200m.

I had no idea that 1.5billion$ was put into Pole’s research every year. Although that’s an impressive amount of money, it seems not to be in the case of global warming. From my point of view, global warming is almost inevitable and as you stated, the effects are devasting. I think this topic is very original as it brings both the concern of countries for the care of humanity and the environment and the serious magnitude of global warming. It’s quite interesting to imagine this map of Antarctica in 20 years, probaly reduced by 30% in land mass! Good job on the facts, their accurate and also efficiently set put through your paragraph. Well, sice there’s too much to talk about with global warming, I’ll just submit this comment. Good Job

I was supprised what is happening to the world. I think it was very inteligent of you to bring this up to our notation since this might affect the world world and might become a serious problem. in addtion, i really apreciated you putting detailed information such as 1.5 billions dollorss spent for north and south pole studies. i believe the world has to pay close addention to this matter as this could kill countless amount of people as well as distroying our work on the world. I really enjoyed your news and i have learnt and became aware of this problem.

    Hey Mariano
Great job on the article choice
because it’s really important to know about what
global warming is doing to the world.
    It sucks to know that
only few people care about this,
because if more people are concerned
it wont get as bad as this.
    Good job (:
